① The dress is beautiful. （这件衣服好漂亮。）
② Wendy does not like the dress. （温蒂不喜欢这件衣服。）
妈妈问孩子：这 2 句话，和上次练的句子，有什么区别？
孩子回答说：上次练习的句子，句子开头都是一样的，而这 2 个句子，开头都不一样。
第一句是“The dress”开头，第二句是“Wendy”开头。
妈妈说：真棒！观察很仔细！学习英文写作，就是要养成认真观察句子的习惯。
妈妈接着说：我们可以把这两句话，用 but 连起来。
妈妈一边说，一边在纸上写：
The dress is beautiful + but + Wendy does not like the dress
= The dress is beautiful but Wendy does not like the dress.
写完之后，妈妈问孩子：找找看，这句话里，哪两个词是重复的？
孩子说：the dress 是重复的。
妈妈说：英语不喜欢重复，所以咱们把这句话改写成：
The dress is beautiful but Wendy does not like it.
妈妈用荧光笔，把句子里的“The dress”，“but”和“it”涂上颜色。妈妈还要告诉孩子，句子最后的“it”，就是代替句子开头的“The dress”。
开始练习之前，妈妈可以提醒孩子说：今天，我们练习用“但是（but）”，把 2 个句子合并到一起。
开始练习喽！
一、让孩子动笔，完成五组练习。
① The alarm clock is ringing. （alarm clock: 闹钟）
② Rosie cannot wake up.
① + but + ② =
① It is winter.
② The flowers are in bloom. （in bloom: 开花）
① + but + ② =
① It is time to go to school.
② Ann is still sleeping.
① + but + ② =
① Daniel likes to draw. （draw: 画画）
② Daniel's sister likes to play the piano.
① + but + ② =
① The flowers are beautiful.
② Jessie does not like the flowers.
① + but + ② =
二、完成之后，一起对答案。
The alarm clock is ringing but Rosie cannot wake up.
It is winter but the flowers are in bloom.
It is time to go to school but Ann is still sleeping.
Daniel likes to draw but his sister likes to play the piano.
The flowers are beautiful but Jessie does not like them.
注意：如果孩子把第四组合并成 Daniel likes to draw but Daniel's sister likes to play the piano. 妈妈要用荧光笔，把句子前后两个 Daniel 划上颜色，并提醒孩子，英语不喜欢重复，应该把 Daniel's sister 改成 his sister
如果孩子把第五组合并成 The flowers are beautiful but Jessie does not like the flowers.
妈妈要用荧光笔，把句子前后两个 flowers 划上颜色，并提醒孩子，英语不喜欢重复，应该把句子最后面的 flowers 改成 them
孩子写错的句子，要重新誊抄一遍。
三、对完答案，让孩子像下面那样，把句子里的 but 划上荧光笔。
The alarm clock is ringing but Rosie cannot wake up.
It is winter but the flowers are in bloom.
It is time to go to school but Ann is still sleeping.
Daniel likes to draw but his sister likes to play the piano.
The flowers are beautiful but Jessie does not like them.
划完荧光笔之后，妈妈对孩子说：写作文的时候，用 but 是为了提醒读者，后半句话的意思，将有所转折。
